William "Sonny" Smith
Mr. William T. "Sonny" Smith, age 72, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (December 2, 2011) at his home. Born on October 15, 1939 in Roanoke, Virginia, he was a son of the late Robert Clint Smith and Alice (Pearl) Smith and a 1958 graduate of Honaker High School. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam War. Prior to retiring in 1999, he was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 32 years and later worked in the Produce Department at the Big Y Supermarket in Manchester from 2000-2011. He was a longtime member, Elder, and Usher of the Victory Outreach Ministries in East Windsor. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, William Mark Smith. Survivors include his wife and best friend of 48 years, Lois Whited Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Shara Smith of Manchester and Jeffrey and Amanda Smith of Columbia; four special grandchildren, Brianna, Austin, and Caleb Smith and Archie Belcher IV; one brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Judy Cole of Bristol, TN; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Robert Justice of Gray, TN; two nephews, Darrell Cole Jr. and Nicholas Cole both of Tennessee; and his sister-in-law, Eula Whited of Manchester. The Smith family would like to extend a special thank you to their neighbors, Rick Murdock and Marge Breen for their compassion and wonderful support.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dwight Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by the American Veterans' Honor Guard of Richlands, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association of CT, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Friday at the Honaker Funeral Home.
